2024 Toyota Tacoma: Complete Refresh, Engine Options, Hybrid and Coil Spring Suspension

While most midsize pickups are getting more limited in features, the 2024 Tacoma is more versatile than ever. Most of the Tacoma trim line is already available, with the exception of the TRD Pro and Trailhunter. These two variants with a new 326 horsepower hybrid system will appear later.
The base Tacoma received a 2.4-liter turbo-four with 228 hp. The rest have more powerful versions with up to 278 horsepower, matching the previous 3.5-liter V6 engine. In this case, the torque increases from 359 to 429 Nm and reaches 3000 rpm faster. A new 8-speed automatic replaces the 6-speed, and a manual transmission is still available.
The cabin is better insulated from engine noise, has a higher seating position, an updated interior with a modern design, bright digital displays, power front seats and a JBL stereo with portable speaker – all this replaces the atmosphere of the old 2005 pickup truck. Also included are electric power steering, rear disc brakes, lane keeping assist and improved off-road control.
The new Toyota Tacoma features the body and frame from the Tundra, along with an available coil-spring rear suspension that adds a smooth ride. The Limited variant also receives additional adaptive dampers that improve comfort and off-road capabilities. Base and extended cab models are equipped with leaf springs.
Conquering off-road conditions is the main goal of the new Toyota Tacoma. The TRD Off-Road trim now features 33-inch BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A tires, Bilstein shock absorbers with remote reservoirs, and an optional switchable front sway bar. The revived PreRunner package — with two doors, two seats and all-wheel drive — is a cheaper alternative with similar equipment.
The model range offers many configurations. Prices start at $32,995 for the SR and go up to $53,595 for the Limited. Off-road ready TRD Pro and Trailhunter will appear a little later.
