Ram 1500 pickups will receive an update for the 2025 model year. The main change: new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged Hurricane inline-six engines from Stellantis, which are more powerful and efficient than the Hemi in some configurations.

According to 5thGenRams, the Hurricane engine will be called Straight-Six Turbo (SST), despite the fact that this combination was already used in the Dodge Ram Super Sport/Truck pickup in the 90s. While Ram has yet to release official mpg figures for the new engine, it's clear what to expect. The engine is already used in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, its fuel consumption is 13.8 l/100 km (16.8 city, 11.7 highway).

The new Ram SST H/O engine produces 540 horsepower and 706 pound-feet of torque. The high-performance option will be standard on Limited, Limited Longhorn and Tungsten models, but not available on other trims. Another thing to note is that the H/O option will not provide the best towing (4871 kg) and payload capacity (621 kg).

If you need to transport heavy loads, then you should consider the standard Hurricane S/O engine option (420 hp, 635 Nm). It offers higher payload capacity (866 kg) for Tradesman and Big Horn (Lone Star) models and towing capacity of up to 5,243 kg. If you need even more power, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque mild hybrid on the Tradesman and Big Horn (Lone Star) offers a maximum payload of 1,043 kg.
